Certificates

Any course can automatically award a PDF certificate the moment a learner completes it. The certificate control lives on the course's Settings tab, just below Description.

Enabling a certificate

Open the course's Settings tab and use the Certificate dropdown to pick one of three fixed designs — Classic, Modern, or Minimal. Choosing None (the default) means no certificate is issued for this course at all.

Certificate settings are saved together with the rest of the course — there's no separate save button. Just fill in the dropdown and duration, then click Save as usual.

Applies going forward

Enabling a certificate only affects completions from that point on. Learners who completed the course before you turned it on won't automatically receive one for that past completion.

The three templates

Each template is a fixed, ready-to-use design. Every certificate includes the learner's name, the course name, your organization's name, the completion date, a unique certificate number, and a QR code learners (or anyone they show it to) can scan to verify it.

Classic

A bordered, traditional layout with a serif typeface — the look most people associate with a printed certificate.

Modern

Minimal

A quiet, whitespace-driven layout with a single thin rule — understated and modern.

Previewing a template

Once a template other than None is selected, a Preview link appears next to the dropdown. It opens a sample PDF — with placeholder learner and course names — in a new tab so you can see exactly what learners will receive. The preview is never saved and doesn't count as an issued certificate.

Certificate duration

Use Certificate Duration to set how many days a certificate stays valid after it's issued, for training that needs periodic renewal.

  • Leave it blank (or 0) and the certificate never expires.
  • Enter a number of days and the certificate's expiration date is set that many days after it was issued. Once that date passes, the certificate shows as Expired wherever it's viewed — the learner still keeps their PDF, but it's flagged as no longer current.

How and when it's issued

A certificate is issued automatically the moment a learner completes (and, if the course has a pass/fail check, passes) the course — there's nothing the learner needs to click. Right after that, they receive an email with a link to view it, and it also becomes available on their My Certificates page. See My Certificates for what the learner sees.

Each learner gets exactly one certificate per course (per package/group context, if the course is offered through more than one). Re-completing a retake-enabled course doesn't generate a duplicate.

Group overrides

If this course is sold or assigned through a package, a customer group administrator can override your certificate choice for their own group — for example, disabling it for their group even though it's enabled for everyone else, or using a different template. See Certificate Overrides.

Public verification

Every issued certificate can be verified without logging in. Scanning the QR code, or opening the verification link printed on the certificate, shows a simple page with the learner's name, course name, organization, issue date, expiration date, certificate number, and a status badge (Valid, Expired, or Revoked). No email addresses or internal account details are ever shown on this page — it's safe to share with an employer or auditor who needs to confirm a certificate is genuine.
